crying stage (birth~5 months)
Before jumping into the 4 major stages, there is a stage where everything begins. It is the newborn stage of crying. It's like the starting line in a running race. From birth to up to about 5 months, infants cry to express their needs. It is the only way for them to communicate with their parents. When they are hungry, cold, sick or need to be changed; the answer for them is to cry.

telegraphic stage (24~30 months)
From utterances with two words, children jump straight into using multi-words. They still lack in function words (i.e. prepositions, conjunctions, determiners, pronouns) and morphemes, but begin to apply inflection. The first inflection will be adding '-ing'. For example, they will say "Papa going" instead of "Papa go". Second inflection is the use of plurals. They will be able to identify that objects come in multiples, not always just one. They will also use this to express that they want more of what they need. The third one is using simple prepositions, such as in, on, at, up, etc. So they will develop from "Mama kitchen" to "Mama in kitchen". In addition, children will be capable of forming questions by putting 'wh-' question words. (i.e. who, what, where and when). It will typically be in the beginning of their phrases/sentences. For instance, "Where daddy", "What that".
